Cordyline Australis (also known as the Cabbage Tree) is neither a palm nor a cabbage. It is a fast growing tree that has become a feature of gardens throughout the UK. It hails from New Zealand and can reach 4.5 meters in the UK. It prefers full sun but is also grown in partial shade and is able to withstand strong winds. The tree needs very little maintenance other than if a very cold winter is forecast; then you can wrap it up for the coldest months quite easily. As soon as the cold spell has passed unwrap the plant.
